Michael Castrilli is the Executive Director of the Association of Inspectors General (AIG). Prior to AIG, Michael was the Senior Program Director of Financial Literacy at Working In Support of Education (W!se). Michael led W!se’s nationwide Financial Literacy Certification program for high school students and educators.
Before joining W!se, Michael was a business fellow and adjunct professor at Villanova University’s School of Business. At Villanova, he taught courses in strategic planning, performance, and project management in the Master of Science in Church Management program. Michael was also the founder of the Church Management Academy, an educational initiative to train ministers in management. A former seminarian, Michael blended his ministry and theological education to deliver training programs at theological colleges across the United States and Italy.
Along with teaching, Michael also managed a major grant from the Lilly Endowment. He led the development of an innovative online financial literacy education program for ministers. Michael has written extensively in the areas of nonprofit finance, human resources, performance management, and co-authored the award-winning book Parish Finance: Best Practices in Church Management (New York: Paulist Press, 2016).
Michael has experience in both the public and private sectors. He has served in numerous capacities as a strategic adviser and executive facilitator to Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations to help analyze and execute critical business decisions.
Executive Facilitator and Trainer
Michael was the director of training and professional services at the enterprise software company Decision Lens. He successfully built the company’s first online training education platform, Decision Lens University. Previously he was an executive facilitator at Corporate Executive Board (now Gartner) and a management consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton.
Michael Castrilli began his career in Washington, D.C. as a senior budget analyst for the District of Columbia and was a Presidential Management Fellow at the United States Department of Justice. He holds a M.P.A. from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, a M.Div from the Washington Theological Union, and a B.A. in education from the University at Albany. Michael currently lives in Syracuse, New York and San Antonio, Texas.
